Our Royal Courts

Our Krewe is led, figuratively speaking, by our current King (representing Captain Dominique Youx), and his Queen, and they are attended by his court of Pirates and Princesses.  Dominique Youx and his court represent our Krewe at events for a full year, beginning with their coronation in the spring at our Mardi Gras Ball, serving until a new court is crowned at the following year’s ball (from January to January). 

The role of Dominique Youx and his court is ceremonial, and they are actively the Ambassadors of Goodwill for our Krewe and community.  While the Board of Directors tends to the business of running the Krewe, our royals represent the Krewe at local parades (and out-of-town events) during their reign.  Our royals are selected secretly each year by the Board of Directors, having been nominated by the Nominating Committee. Nomination to the court is in recognition for faithful service to the Krewe and shows the Krewe’s appreciation for a job well done. Selection to King or Queen recognizes many years of dedicated service to the Krewe, and each year’s royalty is kept secret, revealed in a ceremony that is the highlight of each year’s Mardi Gras Ball.  Pirates receive new custom, coordinated costumes that are more elaborate than the standard pirate costume (complete with tri-cornered hat). The ladies generally dress formally, often with coordinating outfits & accessories (plus, a special pin from their Queen).  Husbands and wives rarely serve together on a court, but spouses usually participate in many of the court activities. This fosters a special bond with a smaller group of members, and this group will have “court only” events throughout their reign (and from then-on, after a new court is named).
